Guy Ritchie’s New Movie Starring Jason Statham Starts Filming in Qatar
English film director Guy Ritchie is shooting his highly anticipated action spy film in Qatar. The still untitled movie is a production of Miramax and STX Films.
The film reunites Ritchie again with action-thriller actor Jason Statham, marking their second film together for Miramax following Wrath of Man. The film will also feature actors Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes and Bugzy Malone. The next filming destination will be in Antalya, Turkey.
According to beIN Media Group chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi, Guy and Jason have repeatedly impressed audiences with their collaborations.
The film marks our third collaboration with Ritchie, adding to our expanding list of nearly 20 projects having been released or currently in production since beIN’s acquisition of Miramax — a testament to our continued success achieving the target goals we set forth for the studio’s evolution while remaining committed to prioritising investments in innovative and culturally relevant films.
In the film, MI6 guns-and-steel agent Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) is recruited by a global intelligence agency to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that threatens to disrupt the world order. Reluctantly paired with CIA high-tech expert Sarah Fidel, Fortune sets off on a globe-trotting mission where he will have to use his charm, ingenuity and stealth to track down and infiltrate billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds.

Guy Stuart Ritchie is an English film director, producer and writer. His most recognised work includes King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and the Sherlock Holmes franchise. He was previously married to American pop star Madonna.
Who is Jason Statham?
Jason Statham is a well-known English actor, typically typecast as the anti-hero, taking action-thriller roles and portraying tough, machiavellian characters. His most recognised roles are Frank Martin in the Transporter trilogy (2002–2008) and Deckard Shaw, in Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017) and in the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), which is also his debut and only work as a film co-producer. He also found success as part of the ensemble action series The Expendables (2010–2014).
Not a First
Although Qatar is a major destination for many celebrities in the region, the country has also attracted celebrities from Hollywood and Bollywood in recent years.
This not the first time that a star-studded production was filmed in Qatar. In fact, that battle scene from the movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), was shot in Qatar.
Most recently, Netflix‘s reality show, The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, showcased the rich and luxurious lifestyle of four celebrities. One of the highlights of the show is the Doha trip that the four friends – Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan, Bhavana Pandey, and Neelam Kothari – embark upon.
In 2012, American rappers and songwriters Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Big Sean shot a music video at the ceremonial court in Education City. The same year, Kanye West’s film Cruel Summer, also emerged. The film was exclusively shot in Doha starring Qatari actors and actresses. The project was produced in association with the Doha Film Institute and premiered during the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Kanye’s music video for ‘Mercy’, featuring Big Sean, 2 Chainz, and Pusha T was also shot in Qatar.
Qatar’s More than Usual Share of Celebrity Visitors
Official Opening of the National Museum of Qatar. Many celebrities have come to Qatar on special occasions. The opening ceremony of the the marvelous National Museum of Qatar in 2019 was attended by a host of celebrities, including English singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, American actor Johnny Depp, Portuguese professional football manager Jose Mourinho, English model Naomi Campbell, and Welsh actor and singer Luke Evans.
Love Ball Arabia. In the same year, the highly anticipated charity event Love Ball Arabia was held in Qatar in March, in partnership with Qatar Museums and under the patronage of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Russian model Natalia Vodianova. The event welcomed high-profile guests from around the world for a gala dinner and auction to raise funds for in support of children with special needs in Qatar and Russia. Love Ball Arabia has succeeded in securing USD7.5 mn in funding for joint initiatives between Al Shafallah Center and Naked Heart Foundation.
Fashion Trust Arabia. Shortly after, the inaugural Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) awards ceremony took place at the Fire Station. Johnny Depp, Victoria Beckham, Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor Darren Criss, American actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, and Luke Evans were among the A-list celebrities who graced the fashion gala. The awards night saw a stunning ensemble of who’s who in the fashion modelling industry including model Jourdan Dunn, singer-songwriter and supermodel Carla Bruni, Brazilian model and actress Alessandra Ambrosio and model Shanina Shaik, amongst others. Foremost fashion industry figures such as Pierpaolo Piccoli from Valentino, Olivier Rousteing from Balmain, Natalie Massnet, founder of Net-a-Porter and Diane Von Furstenberg were also in attendance at the event.
Doha Festival City Grand Opening. In 2018, Doha Festival City, celebrated its grand opening with a one-of-a-kind appearance of global superstar Jennifer Lopez on 8 November during a VIP Gala dinner at Mondrian Doha for the region’s first Retailer Excellence Awards, followed by a special live Q+A hosted by Khalifa Haroon and a special meet and greet for fans. In her first ever appearance in Qatar, Jennifer Lopez performed hit songs ‘Jenny from the Block’, ‘Let’s Get Loud’, ‘On the Floor’, and ‘Waiting for Tonight’ and wowed the 650 VIP guests at Mondrian Doha.
