A new Executive Education programme co-designed by top-ranked business school HEC Paris in Qatar and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) – both members of Qatar Foundation – will target healthcare professionals aimed at driving systems-level management expertise and accelerating patient outcomes in Qatar and across the region.

The Executive Certificate in Healthcare Management and Policy forms part of Qatar’s commitment to transform into a thriving, diversified knowledge-based economy. Specifically targeting healthcare management, the new programme has been designed to optimise practitioner understanding of effective healthcare strategy, systems, operations, and innovation at an integrated, systems level. In essence, it delivers system-wide efficiencies and enhanced outcomes for patients in the region.

Healthcare management and critical leadership challenges

The programme fully leverages the combined expertise of HEC Paris, which is ranked #1 in the Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2021, and WCM-Q, one of the most respected and highly ranked medical research centres in the United States and the Gulf region.

Healthcare leaders and decision-makers participating in the programme will take two five-day modules beginning in January 2022

The first module will be delivered in Doha and will focus on healthcare management, exploring critical leadership challenges in modern organisations and strategies for empowering employees.

It will look at healthcare financing, priorities and forecast expenditure as well as the measurement and evaluation of new treatments benefits. The future of healthcare and the role of machine learning in optimising the diagnosis and treatment of diseases will also be explored. The session will feature visits to major healthcare providers in New York.

The programme will conclude with an experiential learning project that sees participants work closely with a real-world healthcare organisation to solve a specific managerial or policy challenge.

Qatar’s vision for public healthcare

Executive Education HEC Paris WCMQ
Dr Javaid Sheikh and Dr Pablo Martin de Holan

According to HEC Paris in Qatar Dean Dr Pablo Martin de Holan, their partnership with WCM-Q  underlines their commitment to the country and the excellence in healthcare provision integral to Qatar National Vision. He said that healthcare spending frequently exceeds 10% of advanced economies’ GDP, yet does not necessarily translate into satisfactory levels of population health.

These systems often struggle to ensure timely and affordable access to quality care. At the same time, increasing life expectancies and lifestyle changes alter the nature of services that people expect to navigate these challenges.

WCM-Q Dean Dr Javaid Sheikh stresses the critical role of collaborative initiatives in tackling country-level challenges.

The new programme harnesses the combined expertise of two of the world’s foremost education institutions to address the myriad complexities in providing effective and sustainable healthcare solutions.

Dr Sheikh said this is a significant step forward in providing Qatar’s healthcare executives with comprehensive and integrated knowledge that spans all aspects of customer-centric healthcare delivery and innovation, as well as the operational, management and policy dimensions of sustainable growth.

Our goal is to empower these leaders to guide their organisations more efficiently in order to successfully navigate new realities and emerging risks and opportunities.
