The draw for the HH Emir Cup 2013 was made today morning (Monday 1 April 2013) at Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The draw ceremony was attended by various high-ranking dignitaries including HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), Saoud Al Mohannadi, General Secretary of QFA, Ali Al Naimi, Assistant Secretary and Ahmed Albuainain, Treasurer of QFA. Joining them were leading officials from QFA, QSL, First and Second Division clubs, and sponsors.
The draw ceremony also marked the new branding identity of the Emir Cup, which QFA unveiled.
In addition, the ceremony featured an artwork display, which students from different schools in Qatar created specifically for the draw ceremony under the theme of this year’s Emir Cup. Sheikh Hamad selected 11 of the best drawings to put on display during the cup. Also on display at the ceremony was Sultan Al Jassim’s photography of the previous Emir Cups. Amongst other displays were the trophies that date back to past Emir Cups.
This year’s tournament consists of the participation of 18 first and second division teams. The Emir Cup which will be held from 22 April to 18 May 2013 will take place in four stadiums, including Qatar Sports Club, Al Arabi Sports Club, Al Sadd Sports Club, and Khalifa International Stadium.
The Emir Cup will follow a knock-out format, which is divided into a five stage tournament. The winners of the fifth stage will compete in the final to win the tournament in Khalifa International Stadium on 18 May 2013.
