Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar’s new world-class gateway to the world, presents the latest innovation at Doha’s new aviation hub, bespoke Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS) that are the first of its kind in the GCC featuring Arabic and English information simultaneously.
Senior Public Relations and Communications Manager at HIA, Abdulaziz Al Mass, said:
We are constantly looking for new ways to enhance our passengers experience at HIA and the development of bespoke FIDS is no exception. As a critical feature of airport communications for passengers departing, arriving or transferring, we strive to ensure our guests experience a hassle free, seamless experience through our new world-class gateway to the world.’
Focusing on creating a simple yet informative experience for passengers, the innovatively designed FIDS have been created in-house at HIA off the back of extensive passenger research on how to create a new ecosystem of FIDS. HIA’s advanced screens display flight details for passengers and feature three distinct concepts including;
- Bilingual Layout; as a first in the region HIA displays all Arabic and English information on one screen concurrently to avoid passenger confusion, compared to flight information displayed one language at a time.
- Airline Tailfin Logos; to provide a legible and more streamlined display, aircraft tailfin logos are visible as a unique concept for a higher standardisation of airline recognition. Guests travelling through HIA can easily distinguish their airline and flight ensuring an enhanced, seamless experience. The tailfin logos were designed in-house and compiled with meticulous precision to create the most realistic appearance.
- Typography and Colour; designed and selected to provide maximum readability the font and colours of the FIDS were carefully chosen for clarity from greater distances and to ensure they complements the overall ambience of the airport.
HIA opened softly in April 2014, featuring two runways, among the longest in the world, an air traffic control tower, a passenger terminal with an initial design capacity of 30 million passengers per year, over 40,000 square meters of combined retail, food and beverage facilities and a uniquely shaped public mosque.
