Representatives from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF) jointly launched the Ramadan Voluntary Blood Donation campaign and the National Organ Donation campaign last week.

The campaigns, which will run for seven consecutive years, will continue throughout the whole of Ramadan, and will conclude at the end of the Eid holidays. The two campaigns were officially launched by Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Founder and Chairman of ALF, at the City Centre Mall. Ali Al Khater, Chair of the Healthcare Communications Committee at the Ministry of Public Health and Chief Communications Officer at HMC, and Abdullatif Ali Al Yafei, General Manager of ALF, were among the attendees of the official launch.

Speaking of the annual campaigns, Sheikh Al Thani said that ALF is pleased to take part in the annual initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility commitment. He said that ALF has always been a key partner of HMC in these campaigns, which encourage the public to donate blood and register as an organ donor.

The blood donation campaign fosters a culture of voluntary blood donation – educating the public on the importance of blood donation and how it can have a positive impact on the lives of many patients. We also aim to raise public awareness about the importance of organ donation by correcting any misconceptions.’

Sheikh Al Thani extended an open invitation to all members of the community to visit the ALF pavilion at the City Centre Mall.

We are going to have a variety of fun and interactive events, including storytelling and educational activities. We are focusing on promoting humanitarian values and our pavilion will also introduce visitors to important concepts such a recycling.’

Al Khater thanked Sheikh Al Thani and ALF for their continued support.

In addition to the ALF pavilion, HMC will also have an organ donation booth at the City Centre Mall. Staffed by representatives from Qatar Organ Donation Centre (Hiba), booths have also been set up in shopping malls and other prominent locations around Qatar. Trained staff at the booths will provide information about becoming a registered organ donor. The campaign will also provide members of the public with an opportunity to ask questions about organ transplantation. Individuals who are interested in becoming a donor will be able to register at the booths and receive their donor card on the spot.
