Happy International Day of Happiness!

Today is the International Day of Happiness, which is celebrated throughout the world on 20 March.

Established by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 June 2012, the day acknowledges that ‘the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal’ and recognises ‘the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples’, according to the resolution.

There’s also World Happy Day, which is celebrated on 11 February, aiming to spread happiness around the world.

Grammy-award winning artist, Pharrell Williams, is partnering with the United Nations Foundation to celebrate International Day of Happiness by showing their happiness to Pharrell’s hit song, Happy, which has topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, Billboard’s Digital Songs and Billboard’s Radio Songs and is Number One on the iTunes chart in more than 90 countries. Since 10 March 2014, fans have been encouraged to post YouTube videos of themselves ‘demonstrating their happiness’ to Pharrell’s track with the hashtag #HAPPYDAY and submitting it to Pharrell’s new site 24 Hours of Happiness. On 20 March 2014, the producer will spotlight the best submissions at noon in each time zone.

Organised by Doha Trends, here’s Doha’s version of Happy:

‘Happy’ is the most current song that promotes happiness but let’s not forget Bobby McFerrin classic 80’s hit song ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’, which is also sung by Bob Marley.
