Doha Design District is the new design hub at Msheireb Downtown Doha and will serve as the centre of Qatar’s design and innovation.

Doha Design District, located at the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project, is Msheireb Downtown Doha’s aim of becoming a design hub in the region, aiming to be a vibrant hub and cultural destination for local and international designers.

The vision of Doha Design District is to position Doha as a regional design hub by collaborating with established international brands and designers from around the world while promoting local designers in Qatar. Their mission is to create a cultural design ethos and create an environment where designers and the general public can gather, create and be inspired.

Doha Design District will be a vital piece of Doha’s cultural fabric. It is a cultural destination where heritage, art, sustainability, and creativity will collide to create a truly vibrant hub that will unite the design community in Qatar and around the world.

The District will be home to design, art galleries, showrooms, creative services, innovative stores and more. It will also host fashion shows, luxury fashion and pop-up shops by local designers, entrepreneurs, and food and beverage outlets. Apart from international designers, events will see local entrepreneurs showcasing their designs; an array of food and beverage offerings; workshops; and other creative initiatives.

Since its launch in June 2021, Doha Design Dictrict has already hosted a sustainability exhibition and a Design Week from 3 to 9 October during the month-long Shop Qatar 2021 shopping festival.

The District’s ground floor highlights luxury retail, focusing mainly on furniture and lighting for its interiors. While the ground floor was built to promote luxury international brands aimed at raising awareness on the importance of quality and design. The first floor, which has 3D printing facilities, is a 3D Printing and Digitalization Hub to present artists and enterprises in Qatar with entry to revolutionary applied sciences equivalent to 3D printing, scanning, and photogrammetry. The hub will try to advertise technological growth and help trendy artwork inside Qatar and the broader area.

Doha Design District’s partners include M7, Brera Design District, Miami Design District, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), Almana Maples, Nahla Al Thani, Preciosa, and more.

Crystallation

Crystallation is a creative partnership and a joint lighting exhibition by Doha Design District and Preciosa Lighting.

Crystallation is an interactive light installation featuring seven gates in the shape of a tunnel. Crystallation is a symbol of design innovation. It is an opportunity to show how design can be used to raise awareness of the importance of community and collaboration.

Visitors contribute to its final look by simply hanging a crystal in any spot they like. Each visitor will have the opportunity to buy a pair of Preciosa Lighting crystal trimmings. One of the trimmings can be hung on the installation while the second trimming can be taken home. Prices start at QAR50. All proceeds from the sale of trimmings will be donated to the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.

The interplay of crystal glass elements and light makes the tunnel walk an unforgettable and collaborative experience in Sikkat Al Wadi in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD)

Msheireb Downtown Doha (2)

Doha Design District is located in Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), which is the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project, that will revive the old commercial district with a new architectural language that is modern, yet inspired by traditional Qatari heritage and architecture – its proportion, simplicity, space, light, layering, ornament and response to climate.

With a land area of 310,000 sq m, MDD has been established by Msheireb Properties, the sustainable real estate developer and a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation (QF).

Utilising the latest in sustainable technologies, Msheireb, which means ‘a place to drink water’ in Arabic, will adhere to the highest standards in green building. The strategic objective of the Msheireb project is to reverse the pattern of development in Doha, which has tended towards isolated land use, reliance on car transportation and energy hungry structures. The entire development is targeting LEED Gold minimum, with several buildings targeting LEED Platinum.

MDD is becoming a new social and civic hub in the city centre – a place where it is enjoyable to live, work, shop and visit with family and friends.

In addition to Doha Design District, MDD is home to Msheireb Museums, M7 and Msheireb Galleria as well as hotels: Mandarin Oriental, Doha, Park Hyatt Doha, and Alwadi Hotel Doha – MGallery.

Doha Design District is located in Zone #3, Street #983, Building 4, at Sahat Ghanim Bin Ali in MDD.
