Following last year’s MUN conference, the executive team of MUN club at the International School of London (ISL) Qatar successfully hosted the fifth Annual Model United Nations conference.

The common theme this year was ‘Human Cooperation for Global Sustainability’. High school students from ten different international schools in Doha engaged in productive, critical and intelligent debate to come up with solutions to many of humanity’s problems.

With the theme reflecting the growing importance of human cooperation in order to make our planet sustainable, delegates discussed various issues, ranging from the Lake Chad Basin Crisis to Preventing Pollution of the Seas with Micro-plastics, as well as a plethora of other pressing problems we face in the world today.

The Ambassador of Ecuador, HE Ivonne A Baki, was a guest speaker in the opening ceremony. The Ambassador spoke about the Ecuadorian project to preserve the part of the Amazon in Ecuador, which has the highest biodiversity in the world. She presented an excellent example for all delegates regarding how problems of sustainability may be approached.

Close to 200 judges, advocates, chairs, and delegates attended this year’s conference – ISL Qatar, Al Jazeera Academy, Aspire Academy, Awsaj Academy, Birla Public School, Doha College, Middle East International School, Qatar Finland International School, and Stafford Sri Lanka School Doha.
