ITP Announces the Winners of the Second Qatar Arab Woman Awards 2013
ITP Consumer, the region’s largest publisher of women’s magazines, hosted a glamorous ceremony on 22 October 2013 to pay tribute to Qatar’s most inspirational women of the year and honour the winners of the Arab Woman Awards Qatar 2013 at an awards luncheon at the W Doha Hotel & Residence.
This prestigious event, now in its second year, marks the achievements of the women of Qatar who have displayed excellence in the fields of business, entrepreneurship, medicine, charity, art and fashion. The awards recognise the outstanding accomplishments and contribution of society of these remarkable women, who through their continued hard work and dedication have positioned themselves as leading role models for future generations.
A prestigious Judges’ Board meticulously chose fourteen women who have in their own fields went beyond the traditional definition of success to transform – through their work – the world around them. Amongst those presented was the first Qatari female Pediatric cardiologist and Head of Pediatric Cardiology Section at Hamad Medical Corporation, Dr Reema Yousif , who was awarded the Medical award. Dr Yousif is one of the few cardiologists in the Gulf area that perform and interpret fetal echocardiograms.
Another notable winner was Sarah Al Shamlan, a young Qatari photographer who has harnessed her love for photography to help the less fortunate through. For example, Al Shamlan has been helping the less fortunate by donating the money she made selling her photographs to charity. The winner of the Young Talent award, said:
It is an honour to be recognised amongst such an extraordinary group of women. These awards go a long way in not only recognising the successes of women in Qatar, but in highlighting the development of the role of women in the region as pioneers across all fields’
If they’re not topping corporations the women on the Arab Woman Awards Qatar 2013 list are also heads of major nonprofits and NGOs. Amal Al Mannai, Executive Director of Social Development Center at Qatar Foundation, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award for her wide range experience in the social sustainable domain.

The Judges’ Board engage in a two month research and evaluation process in order to determine the highest caliber of candidates and nominees, culminating with the final selection of winners. Members of the Qatar Judges Board include Bothaina Al Ansari; Senior Director of Human Resources at Qtel, Dr Nawal Al Shaikh; CEO and Founder of 2-B Communications, Mishael M Al Ansari ; Marketing and Communication Director at Anti Doping Laboratory Qatar, Amal Al Athem; a prominent Qatari artist, Aisha Al Bedded; founder of Fashion House Darz and Nadine El Chaer; Group Editor of Ahlan! Arabic.
Mishael M Al Ansari said:
We have had such a fantastic range of entries this year, with so many women involved in amazing projects across such a wide variety of fields. It was very tough to narrow it down to our final fourteen winners, but I think the range is a fantastic reflection of the amazing work being done by women across Qatar and the Arab world. I am very humbled to be surrounded by so many extraordinary women today.’
Supporters of this year’s Arab Woman Awards Qatar include the Qatari Businesswoman Association, jewellery retailer MaximiliaN London, women’s fashion brand Uterque, W Doha Hotel & Residence and Arabic lifestyle magazine Sayidaty.
The Arab Woman Awards are held annually annual in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and set to launch in KSA in 2014. To date, the Arab Woman Awards have recognised the achievements of over 130 inspirational Arab women, including Aisha Hussein Alfardan, Vice Chairwoman, Qatari Businesswomen Association; Ilham Yousef Al Qaradawi, professor of Physics, Qatar University; Vanity Room owners Aisha Al Mesned, Alia Al Attiya and Al Banderi Al Attiya; Abu Dhabi Businesswomen HE Huda Al Matroushi and HE Fatima Al Jaber as well as HH Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
