Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ‘Kahramaa‘, represented by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, announces the start of registration for the competitions of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed‘ for the year 2024.

This initiative aims to encourage all entities in the government or private sector, as well as individuals, researchers, and students, to innovate ideas and implement projects that contribute to the rationalisation of electricity and water consumption and the efficiency of their use to achieve sustainability.

This will be done through 12 competitions for all sectors, according to specific technical standards and conditions, which can be viewed and registered for through the corporation’s website from now until the end of September 2024.

  • Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition: Selects buildings applying best practices in electricity and water efficiency, reducing carbon emissions. (Residential buildings, industrial buildings, sports buildings, government buildings, commercial buildings, hospitality buildings)
  • Best Building Retrofitting Competition: Encourages entities to update tools in existing buildings for energy conservation and improved efficiency. Criteria include energy-efficient air conditioning, LED lighting, and water-saving devices.
  • Best Sustainable Building Design: Promotes conservation code awareness among individuals, consultancy offices, and contracting companies. Evaluated by an expert committee from research centres, universities, and ministries.
  • Best Smart Solution in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency: For smart applications providing energy efficiency services or interactive games promoting conservation.
  • Best District Cooling System Performance: Enhances district cooling systems in Qatar, promoting best practices and innovations for energy efficiency.
  • Best Water Recycling Initiative: Increases awareness and supports water recycling efforts for irrigation, agriculture, construction, cooling systems, and industrial purposes.
  • Best Graduation Project for Energy Efficiency: Invites engineering students to submit innovative projects on electricity and water efficiency.
  • Best Project in Renewable Energy: Encourages individuals and entities to collaborate on renewable energy projects reducing grid electricity consumption and carbon footprint.
  • Tarsheed Short Story Competition for School Students: Encourages students to write stories on preserving electricity and water resources, promoting conservation and energy efficiency values.
  • Best School Project on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency: Open to all Qatari school students for applied research projects addressing SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13.
  • Best Innovative Idea in Energy Efficiency: Supports creative ideas that add value to energy conservation and efficiency.
  • Highest Electric Vehicle User: Encourages community electric vehicle use. Competition based on usage rate and electric engine performance.

It is worth mentioning that this is the 11th session of Tarsheed Competitions and it had received significant interest from all sectors in the country as one of the initiatives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’.
