Katara Art Center Calls Qatar-based Photographers for a Chance to Exhibit in a Fall Exhibition

Katara Art Center (KAC) invites the Doha-based community to put their summer experiences into pictures with Summer Diaries, an open call for photographers of all skill levels to tell stories with images. Selected images will be shown in an exhibition in October highlighting these stories.

KAC Artistic Director and Curator Mayssa Fattouh said:

In this exhibition, we would like to showcase photography in all its variety, used to capture the memory of a lived summer an form a wall of images that has the potential of shared thoughts, memories, and creative or aesthetic vision.’

Whether your summer is defined by travelling the world or staying in Qatar, with family, or in Ramadan, Summer Diaries allows photographers to display their storytelling abilities through a series of images, each telling a story.

Using a DSLR or a mobile camera, the criteria for selection in the exhibition will depend on your ability to express a story through either a message, a thought, or aesthetic.

Requirements and submissions guidelines:

  • These pictures document the summer of the photographer. They can tell a story, or reflect the personality, interests, values, or the eye of the photographer during the summer months.
  • Each picture should tell a story.
  • Participants must submit 15 images for consideration.
  • A short description is required
  • Photographers of all skill levels can take pictures documenting their summer.
  • All age groups are welcome to participate.
  • Files should be in .tiff or .jpg format, ideally at a resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Any borders will not be accepted.

The deadline for submitting images would be midnight 7 September 2013. Please send submissions by WeTransfer (or equivalent file transfer service) to [email protected] with the title ‘Submission for Summer Diaries’.

Selection will take place by a committee will take place over the following two weeks for an exhibition that will open on to the public in October 2013.
