Katara Hospitality, the leading global hotel owner, developer, and operator based in Qatar received Safety Excellence Award in Hospitality sector for 2020 by Ministry of Municipality and Environment during the official launch of the second edition of ‘Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety’.

The event was held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel under the auspices of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, and was attended by Ahmed Al Sada, Assistant Undersecretary for Services Affairs. It included an awards ceremony recognising companies in Qatar that have adhered to the health and safety principles over the year.

The book, ‘Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety’ highlights the country’s progress and development. It also shows Qatar’s drive to cater to labourers and guaranteeing the fundamental rights of workers.

One of the many missions of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is to follow the directives of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and maintaining the right balance between sustainable development and the environment, in order to preserve the future generations’ rights to live in a healthy and safe environment.

By observing such directives, the State of Qatar has been able to provide a unique model for preserving and protecting the environment. In this regard, Qatar has enhanced its commitment to preserve its environmental legacy. Earlier this year, on 28 April 2020, the World Day for Safety and Health was observed, following the major achievements of the State of Qatar in supporting and protecting the environment from the hazards of pollution.

The Ministry of Environment is supporting occupational safety in various sectors and raising safety awareness among workers to avoid accidents at worksites. The ministry confirmed its implementation of various programs and training workshops in the field of safety, security and health, in cooperation with different governmental entities to ensure high level of awareness and commitment to the rules pertaining to safety regulations.

Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Assistant Under Secretary for Services Affairs Ahmed Al Sada, said:

Promotion and implementation of health and safety have always been one of the prime objectives of the nation; and in these troubled times, they assume even greater significance. It becomes imperative for us that we are even more careful than before because the next two years are going to prove crucial for us with regards to staging a successful and memorable World Cup.

The awards ceremony was one of the major attractions of the event. Excellence awards were delivered to local companies that implemented the best occupational safety standards.
