Katara Inaugurates Fourth Edition of Qatar International Art Festival
The 4th edition of Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF) opened successfully this Monday, 26 September, at Katara Cultural Village, inaugurated by Katara General Manager, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti.
The event showcases more than 600 artworks by 300 artists from 65 countries, organised by Cultural Village Foundation – Katara in cooperation with MAPS International. Aside from the exhibition, the event is also hosting a number of art workshops, panel discussions and musical performances, plus a cultural night and an awards ceremony on Friday, 30 September.
QIAF 2022 activities are taking place at Katara Buildings 18 and 19 and their surrounding areas, including building 15.
In a statement, Professor Al-Sulaiti said they are pleased to once again organise the art festival, which this year features groups of artists from different art schools and countries, representing diverse cultures and civilisations.
He said that Katara has succeeded in establishing itself as a meeting place for creators and a bridge of communication between peoples. These kinds of initiatives enrich the cultural scene in Qatar and play a key role in revitalising the country’s artistic movement, facilitating the exchange of experiences between artists and learning from each other.
MAPS International founder and president, Rashmi Agarwal said they are grateful to Katara for hosting the international event, providing a professional platform for artists in Qatar and for various other artists participating in the festival from other countries.
The latest edition of QIAF seeks to integrate arts with football and sports. Twelve international galleries are participating from Qatar, United Kingdom, Spain, India, Sweden, Iran, UAE, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and China. The inauguration was attended by several artists and enthusiasts, ambassadors from different embassies in Doha, and other guests.
