Katara is hosting ‘Qatar Halal’ a ten day festival from Thursday 22nd to Saturday 31st, March. Halal is a term used to describe an object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. The halal method of slaughtering animals with a knife is thought to be the most humane way of killing the animal.
The festival will give a rare insight into the forgotten animal trade of Qatar and allow the public to interact with shepherds and visit stables and pens to see the sheep and goats up close.
President of Katara, Abdulrahman Al-Khulaifi said, ‘This festival honours Qatari culture and traditions which we are truly proud of, allowing us to reflect on our past to ensure a strong future.’ He emphasised the importance of promoting cultural heritage with the younger generation of Qataris to ensure their legacy.
‘Halal Qatar’ will provide a platform for buying and selling animals through various auctions, and awards will be given to the animals.
