Kulluna Launches Ramadan Booklet About Healthy Fasting
In an effort to help raise awareness and combat overeating in Ramadan, Kulluna has launched a Ramadan booklet which gives tips on healthy fasting, its benefits and the side effects of overeating.
With temperatures rising up to 45 degrees and the duration of fast stretching to 15 hours, this booklet is an initiative to help residents understand the importance of eating healthy and balanced meals in Ramadan.
Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, Director of Hamad International Training Centre and Chairman of the Kulluna campaign, said:
In Ramadan, people tend to eat a lot of rich foods, which tends to cause discomfort and lead to indigestion. In 2012, over 8000 people were hospitalised with health problems such as overeating and indigestion. If healthy and balanced meals are taken, then fasting can prove to be very beneficial. We at Kulluna are committed to helping people fast healthy during Ramadan and this booklet is an initiative to raise awareness about the positive impacts of fasting.’
‘We want to make sure that a large number of people are able to access this information and benefit from it, and so this booklet will be available free of charge at several locations such as Carrefour in Villaggio, Landmark and City Centre-Doha mall as well as all Hamad Medical Corporation hospitals.’
During the holy month of Ramadan, meals are eaten in two parts, Iftar and Suhoor. Iftar generally consists of water and dates followed by the main meal of the day. It is important to eat moderately during this meal and to avoid any kind of junk food, fried food, sweets and highly sugared desserts. For Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, individuals should eat foods such as barley, oats, lentils, brown rice, and beans amongst others. Foods such as toast, pita bread, cereal and fruit juice are also suitable for this meal.
