Viens nous sommes ouverts which translate to ‘come in, we’re open’ bode our way to a leisurely French lunch at one of the newest places in Westbay. Of course we’ll come!
La Parisienne Doha at Intercontinental Doha The City may be one of the best places to start if you want to explore a ‘French’ experience in Doha. From the Eiffel Tower out front to the tables and chairs, mural and wall paintings, the place manages to create a vibe that could get you adapting a French accent, well maybe at least while sipping on your flavoured coffee. Oui?
The concept is unique to the hotel, according to Lavanya Kumar, the lovely Assistant Communications Manager at Intercontinental Doha The City. But it’s the closest thing to a French experience you can have here in Doha. The place, now open for over a month, has instantly become a favourite among the French community in Qatar. Chef David Girard, who came by to say hello, is in charge of all the pastry goodness. He seemed please that we found his creations ‘different’ from other pastries claiming to be ‘French’.
The smell and the colourful bread and pastry on display has ‘authentic French’ written all over it. Well, not literally. But the place is spacious and has positivity everywhere that we know why people would want to come back.
We came at midday, just in time for lunch and we had our pick of sandwiches, quiches and pastries. Everything is priced reasonably. We highly recommend trying everything first before settling on a favourite. Their macarons are a must-try of course and the Paris-Brest.
Have you ever tried a strawberry-flavoured coffee? Or an eclair that tastes so strongly of coffee you’d look twice and think that maybe it should come in a cup? You should try those too.
We can hardly keep our eyes open after the meal. It may have been the food and the ambience working its magic. But I totally understand now why a quick lunch is not possible in France.
If you want to treat yourself to a leisurely meal or just be with friends and talk about life and love and food, this is the place to be.
La Parisienne Doha is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm, at the ground floor of InterContinental Doha The City, West Bay. For more information and updates, visit facebook.com/LaParisienneDoha/.
