The General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, HE Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti inaugurated an exhibition titled ‘Language of Silence’ by Sudanese artist Islam Kamel, in the presence of the Sudanese ambassador to Doha, HE Dr Yasser Khalaf Allah Khadir, and a large-number of media personnel.
The exhibition opened with a Sudanese band playing African music, while the assembled dignitaries and audience admired the art on display. In an official statement, the Sudanese artist said:
My silence invaded every colour, every frame and across time. It’s the voice of silence which haunted me for a long time. Through it, I saw the deepness of colour and word. I sought tranquility, to both calm and inspire my senses.’
The artist is a member of both the Qatar Fine Arts Association and the Sudanese Fine Arts Association. He has mounted many exhibitions around the globe, including in the Gulf region, and in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
On display at Katara Art Centre Islam Kamel art presents 41 drawings of mixed media and acrylic that reflects the artist’s silence over a period that lasted for six years. The exhibition will continue until 5 May, from 10 am – 10 pm daily.
