Combining food and films can be a winning move, and thankfully at Bywater, there’s no calorie cutting at their movie-themed Friday brunch.
The lights were bright, and the food arena was set up for some action at Waldorf Astoria Lusail Doha’s contemporary brasserie for their movie-themed Friday brunch, inspired by the classic boxing film franchise: Rocky!
Located adjacent to the pool and beach area of the 5-star hotel, the entrance to the restaurant intrigued even the passersby. As we were entering, we already received a champion’s welcome with the staff (some of them in their boxing attire) handing cocktails to start the movie and food experience.
Of course, the unbeatable fun and interactive atmosphere was paralleled by the incredible spreads of international cuisine. Starting from their cheese selection, salads, seafood, pasta, burgers, meat, and house specialties such as the curried lobster, tuna tataki, caprese panini, sausage rolls, salmon bakes, shepherd’s pie, braised beef cheek and roast beef. Their dessert spread had all the choices every sweet tooth could ever look for. They even had a roaming dessert cart handing out delightful mille-feuille.
Chef de Cuisine Lewis Scarfe (who also wore a boxer’s robe and gloves at some point during the brunch), mentioned to us that they, together with their Culinary Director Yannis Manikis, really put a premium on the quality of the food that they serve. ‘It’s the consistency of the food and service that will make people come back,’ he said.
And he’s not wrong. It was easily noticeable that the selection of the food was well thought of. It was not complicated but the dishes surely left a good impression on us.
As we dined through the 4-hour brunch, we were surprised to see the staff going around the restaurant while hoisting a Round 1 card. Apparently, this signifies a round of shots for everyone. We only lasted until the second round because the drinks surely would have knocked us down if we hadn’t stopped.
Coupled with an innovative venue of entertainment, and with customer service surpassing industry standards, this brunch is a sure knock out. It’s game changing. And make no mistake because Bywater is not slowing down anytime soon as they have more ideas in their pipeline to make their patrons keep coming back.
