Since its recent opening, the G Ring Road has become immediately popular (and busy!). Despite the fat that many access interchanges are not fully open — and people are not yet aware of its advantages — it has become a most useful addition to the road network in and around Doha. It is the greatest road project yet accomplished by Ashghal, the infrastructure professionals responsible for the achievement.
Its disarmingly short and simple name further emphasises the relentless radial and alphabetical progression highlighting the capital city’s expansion.
The Arabic numeral rather than alphabetical name may give more immediate understanding of the scale of the city’s evolution and enlargement: It is indeed the seventh ring road.
Access to Hamad International Airport and the Industrial Area, including Barwa Al Baraha, Qatar Logistics Village, Barwa City and Barwa Village, is being transformed.
This easy access is also critical to the integration of Hamad Port which has recently made its mark on both Qatar’s economy and its evolving coastline, following the example of Ras Laffan Industrial City and LNG port; Lusail City with its intricate coastline; and Hamad International Airport admirably connecting Qatar to the world.
The transformation of Qatar has picked up tremendous pace under The Emir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. We now see enormous infrastructure projects, on a scale barely thought possible just a few years ago, but obviously necessary in order for Qatar to function efficiently at the next level of development.
