Targeting core groups who do not exercise or walk on a regular basis, organisers Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) and RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) will provide a complimentary pedometer device to registered participants in Aspire Zone Foundation’s brand new ‘step into health’ programme that kicked off on 22 December. Designed to inspire and urge Qatar’s people to take charge of their future by stepping up their physical activity there is every encouragement to participate.

Along with the complimentary pedometer devices, Aspire Zone Foundation is providing a free online application that helps motivate participants and facilitate the process by analysing results and answering any questions they may have. In addition, AZF will host a range of community inspired events throughout the year encouraging the Qatari community to take part.

Several senior officials from AZF and RasGas attended the agreement signing ceremony, Mr Ibrahim Al Darwish, COO of Aspetar (member organisation of AZF) and Mr Abdulla Hashim, Public Affairs Manager at RasGas, headed the event.

Mr Ibrahim Al Darwish emphasised the exceptional importance of this programme in promoting a healthy active lifestyle. He said:

This programme is one of our various approaches supporting Qatar Vision 2030, especially the second Human Development outcome reaching a healthy nation mentally and physically.’

Mr Abdulla Hashim praised the brand new programme:

RasGas’ sponsorship for the AZF step into health program is in support of what we believe will be a significant step towards creating a healthier and more active Qatar. This programme marks the last in a long string of initiatives and activities we have undertaken for our Year of Health 2012 CSR campaign, which aimed at raising awareness on nutrition and the importance of leading an active lifestyle.’

Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) also announced the signing of a cooperation agreement which will see Qtel become the Telecom Sponsor of the initiative. Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Thani, Head of Corporate Sales at Qtel, remarked on the programme:

Qtel is a major supporter of sport and healthy lifestyles for people throughout Qatar, in-line with the national vision. The launch of  ‘step into health‘ provides an important opportunity for people of all ages to get more involved and take small steps to a healthier future.’
