If you are in Qatar and craving for something Asian, but not the ‘usual’ Asian buffet, you might want to consider the ‘Taste of Asia’ at The Square, Intercontinental Doha The City.
It offers seven delectable Asian cuisine – Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Filipino – and a feast of popular dishes that are not usually offered in any Asian buffet in Doha.
Take their Teriyaki beef for example. While stationed at the far end side, it proved to be the highlight of our night. Imagine thinly sliced Wagyu beef, hot off the grill, basted in sweet Teriyaki sauce. This is one thing you just won’t get enough of! And then there’s dessert.
I am not much of a dessert person although I like looking through and ‘deconstructing’ beautifully crafted creations from the ‘usual’ buffets. This dessert station is undoubtedly Asian. Their Filipino selection alone is capable of attracting droves. They have young coconuts and Matcha-flavoured cakes and some very difficult to find (and make) sweets. We each had a piece of everything just so we don’t miss out on anything!
Our advise before indulging in the flavours of this buffet: Make sure you’re hungry enough but do not be overwhelmed by the diverse selection. Don’t miss the really good stuff. Start with some soup.
Asian cuisine is simple enough and the flavours are not complicated. If you want to actually get a taste of Asia, try the various soups on offer. Compare and slowly sip the difference. Most flavours will kick in at the end. Dumplings and sushi are also plentiful. Go Chinese or Japanese or both and still be very happy. Their Gyoza was a treat.
Aside from the Wagyu beef, they have a selection of grilled meats to choose from – streetfood style. Of course, there’s the popular Korean Bibimbap, in itself enough to make the Wednesday night out totally worth it.
The Taste of Asia at The Square, Intercontinental Doha – The City is available every Wednesday, 6 pm to 11 pm for QAR195 including soft beverages. Additional QAR140 for an enhanced package. Call 4015 8888 to book your table.
