MAXUS is a subsidiary of SAIC, a leading Fortune 500 company and the largest company in the Chinese domestic automobile market, producing in 2016 about seven million cars, SUVs and MPVs.

There are plenty of interesting historical and industrial details, but the short story is that SAIC bought LDV (that’s Leyland DAF from Europe) and under the MAXUS brand has been focused on vans, minibuses and people carriers or MPVs. With the G10, MAXUS have the specifications and build quality to offer the passenger car market a really competitive package.

The luxurious people carrier sports a powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission from the world-leading gearbox company, ZF. It really shows when you’re on the move. The G10 is a great highway cruiser and is at home doing 110 kph on the highway. It’s also great in town with its light steering and its ZF automatic transmission, and a powerful engine that keeps you up with traffic.

MAXUS Qatar Review Auto Class Qatar Doha (2)The luxury standard of the MAXUS G10 is amazing. It’s more like Qatar Airways premium class with reclining, well upholstered seats, extending leg and footrests, plenty of space for seven or nine occupants and there is even a lift for a wheelchair. For a large family the G10 could be the perfect means of transport. Both adults and children will relish their new-found freedom to stretch out and relax.

By leveraging on SAIC’s decades of experience manufacturing European and American makes for the Chinese market, MAXUS have benefitted from some trickle-down technology. It certainly shows in the G10, which comes equipped with some pretty impressive kit yet has the handling characteristics, high-quality build and refined powertrain of a European manufacturer.

The MAXUS G10 is starting to change decision-makers’ perceptions when they come to review and compare the best solution for their families’ transport. Most people now feel there is little risk with Chinese makes, especially when it is SAIC, the most dominant company in the largest market.
