With a top speed of more than 200 mph, carbon ceramic brakes and uniquely McLaren carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis construction, the 570S sports car takes more of us into territory once the preserve of only the super rich.
Supercars were exotic beasts, and, dare we say, sometimes uncomfortable and over complicated, but absolutely out of reach for most people.
Not so the new McLaren! And while made for the street as well as highway and racetrack, it still loves to thrill. The sensual body draws the eyes of the crowd and those dihedral doors certainly announce your arrival in style.
You can gaze at the lines and vibrant colours of the 570S – the front, the back and the side – and you won’t tire of listening to the equally vibrant beat of the exhaust, either.
Supercar excesses and razor-sharp lines have been softened a little in the 570S and the cockpit is more like a cabin, but us mere mortals will still feel high in the clouds after experiencing the performance. Whatever you do, the grip is phenomenal; set your launch control and roar up to the 100 kph speed limit in a scary three seconds! The acceleration is gravity-defying and the 570S will keep accelerating as long as you want; in fact the engine gets even better above 3,500 rpm. Use the twin dials ‘H’ and ‘P’ to adjust the Handling and Powertrain settings for more thrills and experiences with different suspension and traction control calibrations. The new seven inch touchscreen is equally technical and interesting to use. Infotainment indeed.
Sports car in name and class, with a mere junior rating in the McLaren line-up, the 570S deserves the title of ‘starter supercar’. Compared to its old-established rivals, McLaren has only been producing these cars for around six years. That is to its advantage as its technology is smart, fresh from Formula 1 and state-of-the-art. With the 570S’s unique and pioneering carbon fibre technology so much lighter than its rivals, it gives the 570S an edge in performance and excitement. Conceived for ordinary humans, you will feel most privileged when you drive, or even own one!
