Marhaba Review: The Mandarin Oriental, Doha Caters For Your Ramadan
This week, Marhaba had the good fortune to be treated to one of the best possible ‘takeaways’ we have received in quite some time!
We were lucky enough to sample some of the treats on the new Ramadan menu from the Mandarin Oriental, Doha, which offers a range of hot and cold mezze, soups, main courses, and desserts. There is also lamb ouzi and traditional kunafa for larger catering needs.
And it really couldn’t have been any simpler: The menu was perused (somehow we managed to narrow it down to our favourites), the order was placed, and our address was given. All we had to do now was relax and wait for our food…
We were au fait with some of the dishes on the menu already, given our reviews of the hotel’s IZU and Mosaic restaurants (forgotten what we said? Read them here and here). My word, we were looking forward to it – and we were not disappointed!
The hotel is running the Ramadan promotion as part of the ‘Mandarin Oriental & me’ bespoke delivery service, offering celebratory dishes for diners to enjoy at this special time of year. As you would expect from a five-star hotel, the service is impeccable.
For one thing, take a look at that packaging! These guys at the Mandarin Oriental aren’t messing around. The savoury dishes were delivered inside a gorgeous teal and gold box, which you can easily reuse, while the desserts came inside a wonderful gift bag.
We received all of our items – meat kibbeh, hummus, Arabic mixed grill, Norwegian grilled
salmon, pecan brownie, and mohalabia – in sturdy packaging which had kept the hot items
hot and the cold items cold. We also received some very thoughtful additions – dates, laban, falafel, Arabic bread, gluten free bread rolls, tahini and garlic mayonnaise. The desserts were also gluten free options, including a fabulous passionfruit cheesecake courtesy of the chef, so don’t be afraid to mention any special requests. Everything was labelled and had clear instructions.
And we are delighted to report that once we had completed the necessary photoshoot (these dishes are seriously Insta-worthy), we delved in and ate the lot. It was absolutely delicious and just as good as we remembered. The Arabic mixed grill was aromatic and perfectly cooked, the salmon was juicy and succulent, the pecan brownie was a heavenly dome of chocolatey-nutty goodness…
In fact, the overall experience was so fabulous, we’re ordering it again very soon! Efficient 24/7 service, excellent food, thoughtful touches, the glamour of fine dining in your own home this Ramadan – what’s not to like?
