As part of its ongoing commitment to the holy month of Ramadan, Marriott International is once again celebrating the ‘Iftar for Cabs’ initiative at participating hotels in the Middle East, including 12 in Qatar.

Now on its 11th edition, the initiative will launch this week, on 27 April, during the Iftar hour, where cab drivers who will drive through the main entrances of Le Royal Meridien Doha and Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, will receive complimentary Iftar packs to break their fast.

Catering teams at these two hotels and in ten other Marriott International Doha-based properties have prepared Iftar packs, which include a diverse selection of food and beverage items. Associates from across various departments within all eleven hotels, including Catering, Administration and Guest Services will join forces to bring the Iftar for Cabs initiative to life. This year, participating Marriott International properties in Qatar will personally distribute over 1,000 Iftar packs to cab drivers.

Annual tradition

Launched in 2010, Iftar for Cabs has turned into an annual tradition for many cab drivers throughout the region. The initiative has been widely appreciated by hotel owners, local communities and the transport authorities.

According to Rick Enders, Chair of the Marriott Worldwide Business Council Qatar and Cluster GM for JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, Marriott Executive Apartments City Center Doha and Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, it gives them great pride as a company to go the extra step to give back to the communities in which they operate. He said that the initiative is even more important this year after the difficult year we all had last year.

‘Iftar for Cabs’ embodies the spirit of the holy month, and we are extremely proud of our hotel teams who are committed to bring to life to this initiative every Ramadan.

Serve 360

The Iftar for Cabs initiative falls under Marriott International’s Sustainability and Social Impact Platform – Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction – which guides how the company makes a positive and sustainable impact wherever it does business.

From empowerment opportunities to sustainable hotel development, the platform is designed to foster business growth while balancing the needs of associates, customers, owners, the environment and communities. One of the priority areas or coordinates of Serve 360 is Nurture our World. Iftar for Cabs is an initiative that directly supports and brings this vision to life.

In line with directives from local health authorities and the ongoing efforts to safeguard public health, Marriott International properties will implement additional safety measures while organising the initiative and handing over Iftar packs to cab drivers.

Hotels providing team support to the Iftar for Cabs initiative at the distribution locations at Le Royal Meridien Doha and Sheraton Grand Doha include Al Messila, Four Points by Sheraton Doha, JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, The Ritz-Carlton Doha, Sharq Village & Spa, St Regis Doha, Westin Doha, Marriott Executive Apartments City Center and W Doha.
