Ministry of Culture Celebrates Conclusion of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021
The Ministry of Culture recently concluded the activities of the Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, hosted by the State of Qatar over the course of a year, in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science. The event was held under the slogan, Our Culture is Light.
The Ministry of Culture organised a special celebration on the sidelines of the 31st Doha International Book Fair at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).
According to Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, he is pleased to conclude the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which witnessed a diverse cultural movement despite the exceptional health conditions experienced by the entire world.
He said that the pivotal role of culture was emphasised, which confirms the close link between economic advancement and development on the one hand, and culture on the other hand, adding that countries rise and prosper, thanks to their cultures.
Rich Qatari culture
His Excellency also pointed out the keenness of Doha events to translate the qualitative richness of Qatari culture in order to preserve the Islamic culture and enhance its presence in community with its openness to diverse cultures. Qatar is home to more than 150 communities of different cultures, religions, languages, and ethnicities, all of which contribute to the renaissance process.
He said that the events contributed to achieving positive interaction between intellectuals, creatives and cultural institutions, as it has succeeded in presenting a distinctive image of Qatar culture and heritage, from which Qatar national identity is nourished. He also added that as much as the events worked to enhance cultural identity, it also sought to build bridges of communication with cultures of Islamic peoples so that culture remains the epitome of rapprochement and coexistence.
The Minister of Culture affirmed the continuation of efforts and giving, as culture is the safety valve of societies, stressing the importance of working to renew its components so that it maintains a major role in building mankind and civilization.
At the conclusion of his speech, His Excellency also pointed to all the efforts made since the launch of the cultural carnival, expressing success for upcoming capitals events.
