The Ministry of Interior, in association with Barwa and Asian Town, will be organising two mega events on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
The events will take place at Al Khor Barwa Workers Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area and Asian Town’s Cricket Stadium in Industrial Area on the first and second day of Eid Al Fitr from 3 pm to 10 pm, consisting of cultural, recreational and sports activities for expatriate communities in Qatar.
This was announced on 13 July 2015 in a press conference at Officers Club of the Ministry of Interior in Doha attended by the Director of Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior Colonel Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah; Advisor for Real Estate Development Affairs in Barwa, Ali Muhammed Al Darbasti; Chairman of the Ibn Ajyan Projects, Muhammed Mahdi Ajyan Al Ahbabi; and Head of the Cricket Tournament Organizing Committee, Azeem Abbas.
As part of the cultural and recreational programme in Al Khor Barwa Workers Complex, cultural performers including Popins and Sariga orchestra teams from the Asian communities in Qatar, especially India and Nepal, will perform from 4 pm to 9 pm on an open stage specially prepared for this event in the complex. In addition, the finals of the ‘Ramadan Championship 2015’ organised by the Ministry of Interior for companies and communities in cricket and volleyball, will be held on the first day of Eid and the finals of the football and basketball on the second day of Eid Al Fitr.

Barwa Workers Recreation Complex’ in Al Khor Industrial area comprises of four football grounds, four cricket fields, two cinemas, one mosque, thirty five shops, one hypermarket, three basketball courts, four volleyball courts and four kabaadi fields. This facility has been built for entertaining and recreation of the workers. We thank and appreciate the Ministry of Interior for organising such a wonderful event for the workers on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.’
The cricket stadium at Asian Town, which is near Grand Mall in the Industrial Area, will witness a cricket tournament between Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Nepalese and Qatari teams from 3 pm to 10 pm in first and second days of Eid.
Speaking in the press conference, Chairman of the Ibn Ajyan Projects, Muhammad Mehdi Al Ahbabi talked about the recreational and sports facilities and arrangements made in the Asian town for the workers. He said:
The main landmarks of Asian Town are well arranged cricket stadium, four cinemas and the commercial malls and we are very delighted to associate with Ministry of Interior in organising the Eid Al Fitr 2015 Six Nations Cricket Tournament for communities and workers residing in Qatar.’
According to the Head of the ‘Eid Al Fitr 2015 Six NationS Cricket Tournament’ organising committee, Azeem Abbas, the tournament will be held for two days at Asian Town’s Cricket Stadium on the first and second days of Eid Al Fitr from 3 pm to 10 pm. He said:
According to our previous experience in organising cricket match for the Ministry of Interior on the occasions of Qatar National Day in 2013 and 2014, we expect a huge crowd from the Asian community for this tournament as it is held on the Eid holiday and it’s the most popular game among the Asian community in Qatar.’
The entry to the two-day event at Al Khor Barwa Workers Complex and Cricket Stadium in Asian Town is free and there will be special areas for the families. In addition, the organisers have arranged valuable prizes for the public to win through a raffle draw.
