The Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced the launching of the new Qatar Visa Portal this week, during a press conference held at the Visa Support Services Department (VSSD).
The new visa portal is part of MOI’s e-services development efforts, to contribute to the strengthening of the state’s growing economy, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
According to Major Abdullah Khalifa Al Mohannadi, Director of VSSD at MOI, entry and exit to Qatar has witnessed rapid growth in recent months, thanks to the many different programmes the country has been implementing. Residents of more than 90 countries get visas on arrival at Hamad International Airport, making Qatar one of the most open country in the world.
Qatar also hosts many cultural, scientific, sports and tourist events all year round, and these events attract a lot of people from within and outside the country, requiring the establishment of a unified platform to receive applications for visas to the country. The newly launched Qatar Visa Portal not only cover visa applications for events, it also offers visa services required for business, investment and for other activities.
Simple Application Process
Qatar Visa Portal was opened in collaboration with a number of other government entities, including a special body on events. This body has all the details of events happening in the country, allowing anyone anywhere in the world to know more about the various events hosted and happening in Qatar.
The portal is designed to facilitate the application process for visitors, through a simple one-page application form. Any user can fill it electronically from anywhere in the world and within a very short time. The issuance of visa will not exceed 48 hours from the date of receipt of the application, if the application meets the required conditions.
The portal provides electronic visa service and follow-up facility to citizens for all countries in the world.
How to Apply
The applicant has to register first, and then fill up the application form with all the required information. The applicant needs to attach all the required documents, including a copy of his/her passport, photo, flight ticket and hotel reservation, or the applicant’s residence in Qatar.
The applicant would then choose the events he/she wants to attend. Applicants can witness multiple events during the 30-day visa validity period, which can be extended for another 30 days. The applicant can track the status of application on the portal.
Applicants can apply for visa within 90 days – four days before travel, and their passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry to Qatar. The service cannot, however, be used to obtain visa for children registered with their parents’ passports.
Lieutenant Colonel Jassim Abdul Raheem, Head of the Technical Affairs Committee of the Security Committee at SCDL, said the launching of the Qatar Visa Portal was an important achievement for MOI.
Qatar is all set to host major sporting events soon, such as the Arab Gulf Cup, the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup and the most awaited FIFA World Cup 2022.
