The GS7 is the latest large SUV to appear in Qatar from the very busy factories of GAC Motor, one of the largest Chinese auto manufacturers. It can be compared to its sibling, the GS8, which is already popular in Qatar. The GS8 is a good-looking large SUV – the flagship model – and it is impressive how all the GAC models achieve international standards of quality; literally every new car seems to bring with it higher levels of engineering and fit and finish. The GS7 continues this tradition perfectly.
Guangzhou Automobile Group, the parent company of GAC Motor, is a partner with leading international brands building cars for the Chinese market. In 2018, and for six consecutive years now, GAC Motor has been rated ‘Top Brand’ among Chinese producers in the JD Power Quality Study and the brand is now increasingly visible in international markets like Qatar. The GS8 is already the best-selling large SUV in China, even when competing with other famous world manufacturers. You can see the full range of GAC quality vehicles in the showroom opposite HSBC on Salwa Road.
DESIGN & STYLE The all-new GS7 might even be better looking than its sibling… It’s slightly smaller than the GS8 but the powerful horizontal lines and a strong chrome grille show strength and style. It has interesting headlights and taillights and the muscular D-pillar and quarter glass design, shark fin antenna, plus a pair of sporty tailpipes, all enhance the modern, sharper and more sporty image.
COMFORT & SPACE It’s easy to see why it is successful: impressive on the outside, the interior will also surprise you. In fact, may find it difficult to believe your eyes especially if you have already seen the price.
The interior is indeed worthy of a much more expensive vehicle with leather and rosewood grain enhanced by lacquer and chrome finishing of levers, buttons and smart controls; 10-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth smartphone integration with wireless charging, the superior 10-speaker HiFi stereo system, remote control and push-button start – all of which give a good sense of being in technological touch and in control. And so much space! It has five seats instead of seven but what large and comfortable seat they are, plus a super-size cargo space…
Even forgetting the bargain price, this is a truly deluxe, top-quality interior which accommodates five adults and their stuff in comfort. For the price of a small SUV from other brands, GAC offer you the ‘big-car-feel’ of a large, very comfortable, high-riding SUV.
POWER & PERFORMANCE The GS7 drives very well in Doha traffic with good acceleration and torque from the turbocharged engine; the brakes are smooth and powerful, too. It’s restful for driver and passengers when cruising, whether in traffic or on the new highways springing up around the city.
ENGINE 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC, 16-valve with multi-port injection and BorgWarner turbocharger.
TRANSMISSION Innovative six-speed automatic with switchable Eco, Sport and Manual modes.
MAX POWER 198 hp (148 kW) @ 5,200 rpm.
MAX TORQUE 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) from 1,750 rpm.
SAFETY & SECURITY Latest technology seat belts and airbags, of which there eight airbags (front, side, curtain and knee airbags), ISOFIX child seat interface, electronic stability programme ESP 9.1 by Bosch combines multiple safety systems like ABS, EBD and TCS; hill descent control; electronic parking brake; tyre pressure monitoring system; electric power steering; ventilated disc brakes on front wheels; plus second-generation body with 95% high-strength steel, plus much more.
