Motoring Review: The All-New Hyundai Palisade
There‘s a busy day ahead: school runs, work, lunch with friends and shopping. When there’s so much to do and so little time to do it, Palisade helps you get it all done and in high style. Safety, comfort and convenience features are all well-thought-out and take much of the stress out of driving. Palisade lets you relax, focus on the important things and makes life a lot easier.
This is a brand new car, or SUV really, and equally a new segment for Hyundai. And they have scored a hit, more like a hole in one, that oh-so-rare occurrence in golf.
You’ll soon see why. It’s a great looking car which gets better on the inside. There’s no historical baggage and so is fresh, modern, practical and smart.
Beyond the cabin’s clean, ultra-modern lines, there’s clean air technology that filters away dust and deodorises the air with an ioniser. Double-laminated glass ensures whisper quiet travel while the 10.25″ touchscreen comes with split-screen and 360° surround view monitor capabilities to ensure effortless command and control.
So, for example, activate the Turn signal and it replaces the tachometer and speedometer with a video feed from alongside the vehicle. Signal left, and the left-side gauge in front of the driver is filled with the left side video feed. Signal right, and the right-side gauge gets replaced with the right-side video view.
Palisade is loaded with other smart features, like the tailgate that not only opens automatically but also allows you to adjust the opening/closing speed and lift height to suit personal preferences. And should you ever accidentally leave a child or pet behind after parking, the rear passenger alert system will automatically issue a gentle reminder.
And you won’t miss an old-fashioned gear stick because Hyundai’s Palisade gives you something better: not (just) because it’s push-button clean and smart but because it acts in an instant and increases your driving pleasure. The Palisade is smart but friendly – not nerdy or bossy.
So, yes, a good indication of how Hyundai understands the new generation of car buyers.
Smart from start to finish, that’s Palisade!
ENGINE 3.8 litre V6
MAX POWER 291 hp (217 kW) @ 6,000 rpm
MAX TORQUE 36.2 kg-m (262 lb-ft) @ 5,200 rpm
TRANSMISSION Smooth eight-speed automatic, all-wheel drive
EXTERIOR The Palisade has a strong, impressive exterior, and the top quality trim includes a huge but exclusive grille, chrome accents, body-coloured wheel arches, and 20-inch wheels, which make the Palisade look very upscale, comfortably in luxury territory
INTERIOR The first impression of luxury carries over to the interior; access is easy, thanks to large doors and seats at hip height for an average driver. Seats are wide, well-padded, cooled, very comfortable. The instrument panel uses a large digital display that presents a range of information directly in front of the driver, plus a really large centre screen. There are seven (!) USB ports; sound to the rear speakers can be muted for those passengers wishing to sleep and, the driver can mute those speakers to speak to say, noisy kids in the back
SAFETY Hyundai SmartSense – cutting-edge driver assistance systems – uses latest active safety technologies to help keep you safe; stability control; rear view camera and sensors, plus 360° camera for safer exiting, reversing or parking; blind spot collision warning; tyre pressure warning; automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a driver-attention monitor as standard equipment
