little background on NSD:

An initiative adopted by the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatar National Sport Day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February.

The establishment of the National Sport Day took place in advance of the 2011 Arab Games, staged in Doha, when the Emiri Decree no 80 for the year 2011, instituted a public holiday for the National Sport Day to further embed sporting values into the nation’s culture and inspire local people to participate in sports activities.

Across the country, ministries, government departments, public and private sector organisations and sports clubs will be organising sporting activities for all on 12 February 2013. The event aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits.
