Four students from Northwestern University Qatar (NU-Q) will start their own digital production company this year. Northwestern University Qatar won QITCOM’s innovation competition in early March and were given QR30,000 to produce multimedia projects on current events in the Arab world for foreign audiences.
During her team’s pitch, Ashlene Ramadam pointed out that international media companies come to the region but don’t use local producers; there is a gap in the market. ‘Our company will allow foreign media companies to commission and produce stories about this region that are told by people who actually live here and understand the culture on a deeper level.’
The four journalism and communication majors, Ashlene Ramadam, Rana Khaled, Melanie Fridgant and Shannon Farhoud will be sponsored and legalised by ibq who will also provide 2 years of free office space for the production house.
