‘Only the Finest Horses’ at this Year’s Katara International Arabian Horse Festival
Under the generous patronage of the Amir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara is organising the annual Katara International Arabian Horse Festival this 2 to 6 February.
Katara General Manager and Chairman of the Organising Committee, HE Dr Khalid Bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, said the highlight of the festival will be a Title Show of purebred Arabian horses. As one of the world’s highest-ranked shows, only the finest horses will be eligible to participate. The event will feature a total prize money of QAR13 million and will be held for the first time at Katara Cultural Village.
The highly anticipated event is attracting international interest and global participation. Al Kass Sports Channels is the media partner of the prestigious festival. All precautionary measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of participants, officials and visitors, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health.
Title Show manager Bader Mohammed Al Darwish said that while the Title Show actually commences on 4 February, people can look forward to enjoying a diverse range of related fun activities at Katara from 2 February.
The prize money for the champions will be distributed as follows
- Yearling category: QAR250,000 for the winner, QAR150,000 and QAR100,000 for second and third place, respectively
- Junior category (2-3 years): QAR800,000 for the winner, QAR430,000 and QAR250,000 for second and third place, respectively
- Senior category (4 years and above): QAR1 million for the winner, second and third place winners will receive QAR600,000 and QAR300,000, respectively
Special prizes have also been allotted. A Senior horse that wins the senior championship three times (three editions of the show) will earn the title of Legend, and the horse will win QAR3 million on the third win. A prize will also be awarded to a horse that wins first place in all three categories; the winning horse will get QAR2 million on his final senior win. In addition, this award will be named after the first horse achieving such victory.
According to Ali Yousef Al Rumaihi, Deputy Manager of the Title Show, they already received a very good response to their call for participation.
More than 300 horses have registered. This includes participants from various countries in the Gulf and Europe. Late registration will be open until 14 January. This championship will be the most prestigious shows of its kind.
The Organising Committee will hold a press conference to reveal more details of the festival ahead of the event.
