The fifth edition of Merwad Exhibition opened on 1 January at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC), participated by more than 130 businesswomen. 

The opening was led by Qatar Chamber board member Ibtihaj Al Ahmadani. Vouge Event Company Director Tamader Al Marri was also there to attend the opening ceremony. The five-day expo is sponsored by Qatar Chamber.

Merwad 6Al Ahmadani toured the pavillions and got aquainted with the items on display, and designs featuring designers from Qatar and five other countries – Kuwait, Oman, Turkey, India, and China. The expo covered an area of 6,000 square metres, with 140 pavillions offering clothes, abaya and women’s accessories.

In a statement, Al Ahmadani said that holding the expo especially at this time, only affirmed that the private sector has surpassed the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that Qatar has successfully managed to deal with the crisis through the adoption of precautionary measures that aim to preserve people’s health and at the same time protect the economy.

Al Ahmadani also praised the expo’s development in terms of variety and quality of displayed items, large turnout of visitors and the number of exhibitors. She said that the participation of designers from five countries despite the crisis is a testimony of the success the exhibtion recorded since its inception.

She also emphasised Qatar Chamber’s support for businesswomen and enterprenuers, and the role played by the Qatar Chamber Qatari Businesswomen Forum in supporting Qatari businesswomen in the economic acticivity.

Vouge Event Company Director Tamader Al Marri also expressed her thanks to Qatar Chamber and praised the large turnout of businesswomen and designers  who joined the expo. She said that this type of exhibitions contribute to the expanding role of women in the national economy.

Merwad Exhibition is ongoing at the DECC until Tuesday, 5 January.
