In Pictures: Darb Al Saai 2017

It’s finally rolled around to December, and there’s a festive feel around town. With National Day just around the corner, the country has geared up to celebrate with a slew of events being held across Qatar. The core of the National Day festivities is being held at Darb Al Saai from 9 – 20 December. The venue offers activities and entertainment to engage the entire family.

This year’s theme for National Day is Promise of Prosperity and Glory, a quote by HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. And in 2017, Qatar National Day is being celebrated with even more fervour and national spirit, as locals and expats come together as a community.

A team from Marhaba went down to Darb Al Saai to get the scoop on what’s going on. Both government and non-government organisations are participating this year – such as Qatar Foundation, Ministry of Defence, the Traffic Department, Qatar Development Bank, and Souq Waqif, to name a few. The energy at Darb Al Saai is vibrant with schools bringing in groups of children to participate, learn, and interact. The interactive experiences at each tent are engaging and fun. For example, in the Qatar Foundation tent at the Northwestern University Media Centre Marhaba took some time out to try newscasting:

Once you’ve explored the educational and government tents – which we promise are fun, step out for a bite to eat. From juices and burgers, to authentic Qatari cuisine prepared on site! The Souq Waqif area has the feel of a traditional souq, with a number of goods for sale. Whether you’re looking for clothes or perfume, or just some souvenirs or knick knacks you’ll find it here.

The little ones can go on a horse or camel ride. Or just walk past the pens and have a look at the animals. Visit the Ministry of Municipality and Environment tent to see more animals and birds, such as Sand Gazelles, partridges, tortoises and more. Right beside that, is a ladies only section. At the Algannas tent you can learn about falconry and see a falcon too. Right near the play area, you’ll find a small zip lining area for children.

When you arrive at Darb Al Saai look for a Help Desk where you can pick up a map of the area. If you get thirsty there’s water available for free every few metres – just look out for the Rayyan display units. If you require assistance there is security throughout the venue, as well as a medical tent. Male and female mosques are also on site. Don’t miss out on the festivities at Darb Al Saai. Go out, explore and celebrate all that is Qatar!
