Sharq Village and Spa, in partnership with the Friends of the Environment Center, recently organised the ‘Plant it in Your Name’ event, as part of the ‘Flower for Each Spring’ programme to conserve the environment.
Guests were invited to the hotel to plant a Neem tree – a fast-growing and life-giving tree in the mahogany family, they are found in the dry coastal, southern districts of India and Pakistan. They can grow in many different types of soil, but thrives best on well-drained deep and sandy soils.
Participants planted seeds and saplings while learning more about the ecology of Qatar; to mark the experience, the hotel provided all guests with a marble stone upon which to write their names and the date of planting. This is now theirs to own and visit at anytime.
The event was attended by Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari, Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, who presented some of the many health benefits of the Neem tree: it is considered to be an air purifier, as well as a preventive against malarial fever, acne, pimples and cholera.
‘Give Back Getaways’ under Community Footprints is The Ritz-Carlton’s social and environmental responsibility programme.
