Project Space 4 presents a collaborative mapping experiment to locate spaces and projects of art in Doha.
The Doha Art Map asks us to identify where we see and experience art in the city and discuss how these places could become more generous to our needs. This collaborative creative project is a learning experience for understanding the presence of art in the city and our daily life.
A map of Doha is projected on the wall in Mathaf’s Project Space onto which places we experience art are pinned by the public and the project’s curators. Ephemeral projects and events can also be included. Images of these places can be printed in the space and pasted to the wall to create a collective image bank. An online map is updated to reflect the locations on the physical map in the Project Space.
Contribute to the project online via Mathaf’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or the myHistro Doha Art Map. Each week, we’ll ask a different question about art spaces and practice in Doha and ask for your input. Use the hashtag #DohaArtMap to suggest places for inclusion on the online map or leave a comment on myHistro.
A series of public events will take place throughout the project from 22 July to 15 November 2014, to be announced on Mathaf’s website.
The project is led by Mathaf curators, Laura Barlow, Leonore-Namkha Beschi, Abdellah Karroum, with: Noor Jamal Abuissa, Assistant Curator, Public Art, Qatar Museums; Khaltham Daham Al Kuwari, VIP Tour Coordinator, Mathaf; Mayssa Fattouh, Artistic Director and Curator, Katara Art Center; Grace Murray, Education, Mathaf.
