Psychiatry Open Day at Hamad Medical Corporation

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is holding an open day lecture in their Psychiatry Department on Wednesday the 22nd of February, 2012.

They want to raise awareness about depression so that people will be able to recognise the causes and symptoms and know how to treat the illness.

The lecture will be from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday in the Psychiatry Department (next to The Centre and Mega Mart) and is open to clinical and healthcare professionals and members of the general public, too.

Dr Elnour Elniem Daefeeah, Senior Clinical Psychologist at HMC and Dr Ameera Alkharaz, Specialist at the Psychiatry Department will take the lecture.

It will be in both English and Arabic.

A recent study shows that depression is more common in Qatar than the world average (around 11-20% of people are affected), but it is lower in comparison to other GCC countries.

The Psychiatry Department holds an open day once a month throughout the year (except in the summer) and aims to educate people on aspects of mental health.

You will need to phone the hospital regarding this. Good luck!

Hi Fahad, I’m glad you liked the lecture! As I said, the lectures are monthly, so the next lecture will be in March and we’ll try and give you notice.
