Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) held the ‘Think Plastic Awareness Forum’ at the Ritz-Carlton Doha on Thursday 1st March, under the patronage of HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry.

HE Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, the Vice Chairman of Qatar Petroleum, said he was glad the campaign was raising awareness of how plastics improve our quality of life. ‘It’s a compelling and groundbreaking initiative in line with our National Development Strategy,’ he said.

Dr Mohammed Yousef Al Mulla, the QAPCO Vice Chairman and CEO pointed out that plastic is a popular material because it’s lightweight, flexible, and affordable. ‘But what do we do with something that doesn’t go away when we throw it away? QAPCO’s month long ‘Think Plastic’ campaign looks at this world-wide struggle.’

Dr Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun, Secretary General of Gulf Petrochemicals & Chemicals Association (GPCA) said that plastics don’t need to be bad for the environment; ‘it’s the way we tend to make and use them that’s the problem.’

Hopefully this will be the start of a new initiative to change the way we use plastic in Qatar!
