Following World Heart Day, Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) QSC, one of the leading petrochemical powerhouses in the region and a pioneer in petrochemical production, recently held a day dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular risks and how to prevent heart-related diseases amongst its employees.
The initiative was organised in conjunction with Kulluna, the health and safety national campaign, which is spearheaded by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and coordinated by Hamad International Training Centre. Dr.Mohammed Youssef Al Mulla said:
At QAPCO, as a responsible citizen, and in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030, we believe in raising awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles and fitness amongst our employees and our community. As such, the benefits of the national campaign ‘Kulluna for a healthy heart’ driven by HMC are evident and benefit the Qatari society as a whole. I thank the ‘Kulluna for a healthy heart’ team for having visited QAPCO. Together, we encouraged the QAPCO staff to make more heart-healthy choices.’
On the occasion, the ‘Kulluna for a healthy heart’ team and its mobile unit visited the QAPCO plant in Mesaieed. The word ‘Kulluna’, in Arabic, means ‘all of us’. During the day, QAPCO employees were invited to complete health check-ups that included tests for BMI and blood pressure for instance.
As heart disease remains the leading cause of death in men and women in Qatar and around the world, the Kulluna trained staff also presented and discussed risk factors for developing coronary artery diseases, such as high blood pressure, obesity, the impact of cholesterol, tobacco and diabetes. Overall, the importance of healthy lifestyles and physical activities were strongly highlighted as important measure playing a key role in preventing the risk of heart-related diseases. QAPCO employees were also given booklets providing insight on how to maintain a healthy heart in order to reduce the risks of developing heart-related diseases.
The healthy heart day was a real success at QAPCO as over 250 employees visited the Kulluna team and participated in the health sessions.
QAPCO has developed focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and is investing in projects that support three key areas: employee and family welfare, education, and sports. As the health of QAPCO employees and their knowledge of health related issues is a priority, throughout the year, QAPCO’s Medical Section has been very active at promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles within the company. Therefore, QAPCO encourages initiatives such as ‘Kulluna for a healthy heart’ aimed at raising further awareness about ways to prevent, identify and fight heart diseases.
