The second edition of ‘Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety’ was launched this week under the patronage of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The event, which took place at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel, was organised by Sogha Advertising and Event Management and Conferences. The function was attended by dignitaries, members of the media, and representatives of the ministry, and was marked by an awards ceremony to recognise companies which have been following health and safety norms in the country.
This second edition highlights the rapid strides taken by Qatar towards achieving modernity and gives an account of the massive development accomplished by the country within a short period of time. It also emphasises the State of Qatar’s keenness to provide affordable housing for labourers, respecting and guaranteeing their fundamental rights, making them presentable, and supporting them with adequate compensation when they are unable to work.
One of the many missions of MME is to follow the directives of HH The Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, and maintain the right balance between sustainable development and the environment, in order to preserve the future generations’ right to live in a healthy and safe environment.
By observing such directives, Qatar has been able to provide a unique model for preserving and protecting the environment.
Qatar has, in fact, enhanced its commitment to preserve its environmental legacy. Earlier this year, on 28 April, the World Day for Safety and Health was observed, following the country’s major achievements in supporting and protecting the environment from the hazards of pollution.
MME is also supporting occupational safety in various sectors and raising safety awareness among workers to avoid accidents at worksites. The ministry confirmed its implementation of various programmes and training workshops in the field of safety, security and health, in cooperation with different governmental entities to ensure high level of awareness and commitment to rules pertaining to safety regulations.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Undersecretary for Services Affairs at MME Ahmed Al Sada, said that promotion and implementation of health and safety has always been one of the prime objectives of the nation and in these troubled times, they assume even greater significance.
It becomes imperative for us that we are even more careful than before because the next two years are going to prove crucial for us with regards to staging a successful and memorable World Cup.
Sogha Advertising Chairman Khalifa al Muhanadi, said the book is going to be a real eye opener for the whole world as it describes how the workers involved with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are adhering to international safety standards and occupational safety guidelines.
The awards ceremony was one of the major attractions of the event. Excellence awards were delivered to local companies that implemented the best occupational safety standards.
