Qatar Airways celebrated the achievements of more than 120 Qataris developees and direct hires in its Al Darb Qatarisation programme during a special ceremony at Al Gassar Resort on 7 September.

The Al Darb Qatarisation programme also took the opportunity to introduce its newly re-launched branding featuring a unique logo to the esteemed guests.

Al Darb, which means the pathway, highlights the range of career options within Qatar Airways, as well as representing Qatari Nationals, set on a path to become global residents and ambassadors for The State of Qatar.

The Al Darb event was hosted by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, who was joined by the State of Qatar’s Minister of Finance and the Chairman of Qatar Airways, His Excellency Ali Sharif Al Emadi, the State of Qatar’s Minister of Labour, His Excellency Abdullah Saleh Al Khulaifi, and the State of Qatar’s Minister of Administrative Planning, His Excellency Issa Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ezdan Holding Group HE Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, His Excellency Mohammed Jaham Al Kuwari, Qatar’s Ambassador to Washington, and Her Excellency Dana Shell Smith the United States Ambassador to Qatar

His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, said:

Our efforts to invest in young Qataris is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. We have worked very hard at developing Al Darb to ensure that we are offering a range of opportunities for different levels of Qatari nationals to progress, empower themselves, and most importantly to create a sustainable future for Qatar by investing in their talent and building a strong local workforce.’

The new recruits, made up of students, developees and direct hires, have entered one of the nine educational and training programmes offered by the airline. These include: National Scholarship programme, Cadet Pilot programme, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme, Summer Internship programme, Graduate Development programme, Aviation Management programme, Airport Operations Management, Jossor Programme and the Massey University MBA programme.

Each programme participant has been provided with a customised programme to help them meet their needs and career aspirations through training, courses and a dedicated own performance coach.

Those acknowledged at last night’s event included eleven Cadet Pilots and four Engineers who graduated from their respective programmes and have now entered the Al Darb Qatarisation programme. Students who completed programmes at their various educational institutions were honoured in front of their families, peers and colleagues. Additionally, 22 Cadet Pilots and 10 Engineers who completed their training with the airlines’ Al Darb Qatarisation programme celebrated graduating to become First Officers and licensed Engineers respectively.

Al Darb, which is now in its fourth year, has grown steadily over the years with 450 students currently participating. Qatar Airways supports 23 majors and with offices in more than 130 destinations, Al Darb offers Qataris a huge range of job and growth opportunities within the organisation, as well as training opportunities with strategic partners like Boeing, Airbus, Thales and Rolls Royce.
