Qatar Central Bank (QCB) officially launched Himyan, the first national prepaid card with a registered trademark in Qatar. The card can be used at all points of sale, ATM and online e-commerce transactions in the country.
The initiative is in line with the efforts of QCB to develop an electronic payments system in Qatar and enhance financial inclusion in the country. Banks including Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) and Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) already announced the availability of ‘Himyan’ for customers.
According to QCB, the card does not require a minimum balance, supports contactless transactions and provides lower costs of processing payment transactions for card issuers, acquirers and merchants.
