Qatar Central Bank (QCB) unveiled the commemorative banknotes for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, during a special ceremony led by QCB Governor HE Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a number of state officials and members of Qatar’s diplomatic community.

According to HE Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, the commemorative banknotes constitute an essential contribution from the country’s banking sector. He said that the historic event – the FIFA World Cup™ – is a source of pride for all of Qatar and constitutes an affirmation of the unity and integration of the various entities in the state’s public and private sectors.

The governor praised the coordination between the Qatar Central Bank, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and FIFA, for the preparation and issuance of the commemorative banknotes, which hold the logo of the World Cup and FIFA.

The design was created by a team specialised in the issuance and creation of commemorative banknotes, and in a way, reflects the identity and legacy of the State of Qatar and its football history. The issuance will include paper currencies, made using polymer materials. The ’22 Qatari Riyal’ notes will be available at local banks and exchange houses and can be purchased at QAR75. Its nominal value will remain at QAR22.

In addition to the bank notes, Qatar Central Bank also unveiled 10 commemorative coins.

A short video was also presented during the unveiling ceremony to show the stages of preparation for the banknotes.
