Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani led the Qatar Chamber delegation that participated in the 59th meeting of the Federation of Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers (FGCCC) and in the 133rd meeting of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC). Both events were held recently in Kuwait.

The delegation included Qatar Chamber board members Mohamed bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi and Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Obaidly; General Manager Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi; Chairman’s adviser Alsayed Rajab; economic adviser Dr Mohamed Ibrahim; and Director of the General Manager’s Office, Mohammad Al Mohannadi.

The FGCCC meeting touched on many topics in connection with enhancing economic and trading links between the GCC states, in addition to revitalizing the role of the private sector in the Gulf economy, in a way that helps in maximising the intra-Gulf trade.

The meeting also reviewed the final financial accounts and the comparative report between the revenues and expenses of the federation’s General Secretariat for 2021, including updates on the construction of the new headquarters, as well as a draft work programme and estimated budget of the General Secretariat for 2023.

UAC meeting

The UAC meeting, meanwhile, discussed the various means to enhance mutual investments between the different Arab countries; the most prominent obstacles facing the intra-Arab trade in light of the digital transformation; the requirements of sustainable development and the global challenges; the emerging challenges in global trade; and the opportunities available to the Arab economy.

On the sidelines of these meetings, HH The Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met with the heads of the participating delegations, including Qatar Chamber Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani.

Integrating economic activity in the GCC

In a statement, Sheikh Khalifa stressed the importance of achieving economic integration between GCC states and enhancing the role of the Gulf’s private sector in economic activity, and mutual investments between member states.

The Sheikh pointed out the role of FGCCC in addressing all issues related to strengthening cooperation between the Gulf chambers for the benefit of the Gulf economy. He also assured the importance of facilitating intra-Arab trade by combating obstacles that might hinder its development, pointing to the great potential of Arab countries in achieving Arab economic integration.
