Qatar Chamber Launches Online Platform for Workers Laid-Off Due to COVID-19
In cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), Qatar Chamber (QC) has launched an online platform to facilitate the re-employment of skilled labourers in the local market.
The platform is available via the QC website to enable companies to list down their laid-off employees or workers through filling of dedicated forms for each employee or worker and attaching the required documents.
The agreement to develop this platform for the private sector came during a meeting of the joint coordination committee between MADLSA and QC, in the presence of the Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli and Qatar Chamber Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.
According to a statement from Saleh Al Sharqi, the platform aims to provide the opportunity for companies seeking to hire new labourers to sign in employees laid off because of COVID-19.
He said that the platform will allow firms seeking to hire new workers to choose from a pool of workers, based on the jobs they offer and according to the required professional background.
Al Sharqi assured that the platform aims to secure continuity of businesses and projects in the local market and help companies find skilled labourers by contracting laid-off workers from other companies, thus avoiding any shortage of labourers that may cause the failure of projects of these companies.
He also added that this initiative stressed the Chamber’s commitment towards the private sector, especially in the current circumstances, noting that it also came as part of their contribution to the ministry’s strategic projects, to enhance cooperation with the private sector in providing alternatives for Qatari businessmen, while ensuring compliance with the provisions of Labor Law No 14 of 2004 and relevant legislation and decisions.
He added that the labourers’ re-employment would have a positive impact on the economic and investment activity.
The QC Director General also noted that the platform would help coordination between companies seeking new workers within the framework of the joint coordination between the Ministry and the Chamber.
After submitting the application through the platform, the documents will be transferred to the Ministry for review, checking of the company’s status, and to ensure that the application is in accordance with procedures established by the Ministry.
Al Sharqi said that the platform’s second stage will be launched later to include more services.
