Qatar Foundation Announces Six Winners of 2018 WISE Awards students, alumni and teachers on November 28, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. Worldwide, more than 75 million young people are unemployed. But many employers canít find people with the skills they need for entry-level jobs. Generation was created in 2014 to help bridge this gapóat speed and scale. Today, Generation is active in five countriesó57 cities and 134 sitesówith diverse social, economic and labor-market contexts. A career-launching job for every young person, anywhere in the world. Generation's mission is two-fold: to empower young people to build thriving, sustainable careers and to provide employers the highly-skilled, motivated talent they need. The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), has announced the six winners of the 2018 WISE Awards, recognising and promoting innovative projects from across the world that address global challenges in education.

Projects selected through the annual WISE Awards tackle pressing education issues such as girls education, early childhood education, the refugee crisis, cultural exchange, citizenship values, youth employment, entrepreneurship in disadvantaged communities, deaf education, enhancing teacher motivation, and stimulating critical and creative thinking.

The 2018 WISE Awards winners are

  • Safe Spaces Clubs for Girls
  • One Village, One Pre-School
  • Generation
  • Technology-Based Deaf Education Pakistan
  • Partners for Possibility
  • 1001 Nights Life Skills and Citizenship Education Programme

Congratulating the winners, WISE CEO Stavros N Yiannouka, said they received 413 applications for the WISE Awards this year.

Our rigorous selection process has succeeded in finding six excellent and innovative projects tackling a diverse mix of education challenges from around the world. These projects demonstrate that there are existing global organisations and individuals who share our passion for tackling education challenges through innovative solutions. We are very grateful to our WISE Awards jury members, who did a thorough job in evaluating the projects.’

To be selected as WISE Awards winners, educational projects are required to show that they are established and innovative, and to have already demonstrated a transformative impact on individuals, communities and society within their context. They must also be financially stable, have a clear development plan, and be scalable and replicable.

The winning projects will be celebrated on 22 September at [email protected] in New York, USA. In addition to publicity and networking opportunities, each project will also receive US$20,000.
