Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) is welcoming visitors to a special tent at Darb El-Saai as part of the State of Qatar’s central National Day celebrations taking place over a period of almost two weeks.
The tent will feature various activities and events showcasing QF’s pride in supporting the national identity and nurturing a sense of belonging in Qatar. From Monday 8 December until Saturday 20 December 2014, QF’s tent will include exciting and creative activities while promoting QF’s continuous mission to build a knowledge-based economy and develop human and social capabilities in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Event highlights include a large number of interactive activities presented by QF’s various members and centres for young people. The activities are colour-coded to demonstrate the purpose of each activity.
There are also knowledge-based visual exhibits and musical shows, highlighting QF’s approach to education, which continues to put students on the right path to creating a culture of knowledge-seeking.
The activities at QF’s tent at Darb El-Saai include a reading corner for young people, introducing them to Qatari heritage in order to create a powerful bond with Qatar’s culture and history. QF member Al Shaqab will give special riding and grooming lessons as well as horse healthcare tips outside the tent in an interactive and educational setting. This activity will allow visitors to explore the world of horses, which is deeply rooted in Qatari heritage.
Throughout the National Day celebrations, QF Radio, QF’s in-house broadcast station, will provide children with the opportunity to play the role of a radio reporter and interview visitors. By simply interacting with the general public, this activity will boost children’s confidence and self-expression by conquering their own shyness and fear in order to unlock their potential. QF Radio will also be providing special coverage, featuring many exciting programmes and live broadcasts from the location of the celebrations on its Arabic channel on 93.7 FM and its English channel on 91.7 FM.
There will be additional activities and events at the tent to encourage visitors to lead a healthy lifestyle in order to bring up healthy generations capable of building the future. This is where children choose their favourite ingredients and work out on stationary bikes to make their own smoothies. For adults, there are also various health activities, including weight and fat measurements.
A number of exhibits and activities have also been set up to promote sustainability and environmental conservation. These include a botanical exhibition for native plants and seeds, in addition to art activities that use recyclable materials such bottle caps to promote sustainability.
To encourage young people to master the art of dialogue, QF’s tent will also contain a special corner for Doha Debates. This is where discussions about various subjects related to the Foundation’s pillars and the objectives of Qatar National Day will take place.
Fun-filled activities include leading children into the tent to the sound of the Qatar Leadership Academy Chorus’s rendition of the Qatar National Anthem, as well as various exhibits for schools. When inside the tent, children will be quizzed at various stages with the opportunity to win valuable prizes by testing their knowledge.
QF’s tent at Darb El-Saai will also provide visitors with many opportunities to participate in arts and crafts workshops. These include fashion design, embroidery, leather products as well as introductions to pearl extracting.
