Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation, announced the fourth edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) 2019 during a press conference at Msheireb Museums this week.

Held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, QSW 2019 will run from 26 October to 2 November, and will serve as a unique platform to promote the nation’s sustainability vision with relevant stakeholders.

Sustainability week press conference

QSW 2019 is an opportunity for public and private sector stakeholders to showcase their innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing Qatar and the wider region. It will highlight the country’s contributions and progress towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives set in Qatar National Vision 2030.

According to QGBC Director Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, they are delighted to announce the national campaign, now more important in light of pressing global environmental challenges.

As part of the initiative, numerous activities will take place to promote the nation’s progress towards global environmental protection and the realisation of our sustainability goals. Advancing this vision needs even the smallest individual contribution and we encourage everyone to showcase and participate in the diverse activities we have planned over the week.’

During the press conference, QGBC also confirmed the sponsors of this year’s event. Alfardan Group has come on board for the first time as Diamond Sponsor, while Msheireb Properties joins for fourth consecutive year as Platinum Sponsor. Qatar National Bank is Gold Sponsor.

Other key sponsors include Tadmur Holding, Facilities Management and Maintenance Company (FMM), Jotun Paints,  Ateliers Artea,  Elite Paper Recycling and Contactless.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

QSW provides a platform to reinforce the commitments of all partners and sponsors to environmental sustainability through their organisational practices, and investments in projects and community initiatives that address environmental and social challenges.

Throughout the week, sponsors and partners will present more than 200 events that offer the public the opportunity to be part of the sustainability-oriented efforts. Al Wakra Municipality, in collaboration with QGBC, will launch the ‘Green Home Guide’ in Al Wakrah. Other activities include Future Vision – Botanical Art Exhibition; beach cleaning activities; recycling, paperless, and water/energy saving campaigns; awareness initiatives; and numerous technical talks. Food outlets in Qatar Foundation will not issue plastic bags.

QGBC will hold an appreciation event in mid November to showcase all the activities that took part during the week and to thank all the sponsors partners for their participation.

QSW serves as an opportunity for the people of Qatar to learn about sustainability and the tools needed to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. To register and to find out more about the activities taking place during QSW 2019, visit: qatarsustainabilityweek.org
