Local Organising Committee COO, Ahmed Al Harami assures that Qatar is prepared to host the 2016 AFC U23 Championship that will kick-off on 12 January, 7 pm at Lekhwiya Stadium.
Al Harami noted:
The talented young Qataris and experienced professionals, four main venues: Abdullha Bin Khalifa Stadium in Lekhwiya Sports Club, Jassem Bin Hamad Stadium in Al Sadd Sports Club, GranSetd Hamad Stadium in Al Arabi Sports Club and Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar Sports Club are ready to host the tournament along with partner hotels accommodating the national teams.
Al Harami thanked the following entities for helping with the preparations: Ministry of Youth and Sports, QFA, QSL, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Aspire and Aspetar. All of these organisations have played a major part in the delivery and planning of the upcoming tournament.
Commenting on the coordination with the AFC, Al Harami said:
We are holding regular meetings with the AFC, we are currently in the final phase of hosting this prestigious tournament.’
Al Harami also had some positive words on the marketing campaign for the tournament, said:
The promotional materials are placed within the streets in addition to Najim Mascot tours. We would like to encourage the fans to come to the stadium to watch the matches.’
16 top teams will participate in the AFC U23 Championship finals with the top three teams will qualify automatically to the men’s football Olympic tournament 2016 in Rio De Janeiro.
